Indufence® is an active ingredient rich in purified alisma peptides.
It is an ingredient of plant origin, however it acts by a similar mechanism to that of a probiotic on the skin.
Probiotics are friendly live microorganism that host our skin and protect us. These invisible friends are bacteria, fungi and viruses. They live from our sweat, sebum and dead skin. In return, they protect us from harmful bacteria.
The skin's primary function is to form an effective, protective barrier against any physical, chemical and microbiological stress. This is the responsibility of the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, and in particular the Stratum Corneum.
Two barriers act simultaneously and harmoniously to create the skin’s first line of defense: the permeable mechanical barrier and the immune biological barrier, which - both - constitute the overall epidermal skin barrier!
The mechanical barrier is the result of the special structure of the Stratum Corneum and the cohesion of the corneocytes. Its primary role is to maintain skin hydration.
On the other hand, the immune biological barrier controls the intrusion and proliferation of foreign microorganisms and when necessary, triggers a rapid immune response.
By a similar mechanism to that of a probiotic, Indufence® stimulates both the mechanical and the biological barriers, and thereby reinforces the skin’s overall barrier function!
- Increases the cohesion of the keratinocytes of the epidermis, and thereby restructures the skin's mechanical barrier
- Improves the skin’s biological barrier, contributing to the production of the anti-microbial peptides of the skin (hBD2), while modulating the inflammatory response caused by the presence of St. aureus, the main pathogen that colonizes the atopic skin.
